I'm sitting on a 5 hr train ride to Florence and the train is empty so I get to put my feet up and relax. I feel like I've just being going and going but it's tons better than just sitting al day.
Saturday was such a cool day! While at my last hostel I booked a tour around Capri. We met at the train station in sorrento and there was a couple from ny waiting to go too. I found out later they are doing what I am doing except they have it all planned out for about 3 months. There were two other couples and the boat guy his family and his friend from France. We left the marina and went almost to the end of sorrento. We got to stop and swim and there was even a waterfall that I swam under!! The water is a very deep blue in dome places but then light green in others. It feels almost like the caribbean but 10000 times better! We went around the whole island seeing the green and white caves which weren't really caves and it wasn't really green. We went by the blue grotto but didn't get to stop. Ever since I sent a couple out here and they told me about the blue grotto I have been dying to see it. We docked off a beach somewhere to have a sandwich, it was mozzarella and tomatoes. Yuck! So all I had was a cheese sandwich. Then we had free time for 3 hours and they tried to talk me out of going to the grotto but I was really frustrated by this point bc I thought the tour would have included it. So I left and two busses later I walked down the stairs to the blue grotto!! The first boat guy said he wouldn't take me bc it was just me but the next one did. So the entrance is a tiny little whole and you have to lay down in the boat and they pull you in by a chain. It was the most amazing electric blue I have ever seen. The water all around Capri is gorgeous anyways but this was just breathtaking. I also got to swim in it! Everyone else had to stay in their lame boats but my boat guy let me get out and swim around! It was pretty cold but do awesome. I guess there are perks to being female and alone! The boat guys sing in the grotto and the way it echoes off the walls is just beautiful. That was the most amazing thing I think I have done yet. I got back to the beach where everyone else was and they were shocked I was back so quick. They had kept trying to tell me it would be busy and I didn't have time so I'm really glad I didn't listen. I made it there and back in a little more than an hour. I got some sangria which was not a thing like any that I've had. Then I tried a lemoncello and it tasted like lemony cough syrup. Not tasty.
On Sunday I decided that I did want to go up to Vesuvius. So I took the train to ercolano and there was a little tour place that took you most of the way up. The guy sitting next to me on the bus was seriously making me angry. He was asleep and falling over on me. I wanted to just elbow him right in the face. This guy sitting across the aisle thought it was hilarious. We finally made it there and holy cow what a hike! It's like zig zagging straight up a volcano. There were some not smart women in dresses and flip flops. I don't suggest wearing flip flops while climbing a volcano but I thought that was common sense! It was a really cool climb with purple and yellow windflowers growing all down the side. You could see everything up there all the way to sorrento and past Naples. I over heard a guide telling his group where Pompeii was, I didn't see it and asked him to show me. Still didn't see it but I got some pics of where he said it is. The ride back to positano was absolutely terrifying. Every bus I've been on so far has been scary. But that's because we are driving next to cliffs around really crazy turns. This one was awful. It was like the driver was showing off. He was driving so fast I was actually getting nauseous round all those turns! Everyone on the bus was really unhappy so I was super glad when I got to jump off!
There were some girls I met from nc and lots of people from Australia and even some texans! It was nice to meet all of them and hear all the things everyone has done and where they are going next. Its kinda sad when you leave bc you probably won't see them ever again.
I love hearing Italians talk! It just sounds pretty. Conversations between them however is crazy, they sound like they are angry and yelling and s lot of them talk with their hands. I can't understand it but it's amusing to see and hear how passionate (maybe) they are about what they are saying.
